The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion Update

Emma M. Lion Series

Genevieve Gaunt is Emma M. Lion (plus over 120 other characters and counting…)

In the summer of 2025 I  directed the peerless Genevieve Gaunt in a charming, quirky series of novels by American author Beth Brower: ‘The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion’ (Vols 1-8: 1883-1884). Quirky historical romantic comedy, laced with pathos, mystery and a dash of magic, and set in the fictional London parish of St Crispians, Primrose Hill. Best described as ‘Steam punk without the punk’ or ‘comical-tragical-romantical-historical-magical-whimsical.’

We published all 8 volumes of the audiobooks in autumn 2025, anxiously awaiting the response of Beth’s passionately-committed fanbase.  We needn’t have worried – by the end of Jan 2026 we had already received over 1,500 5* ratings and countless glowing reviews on audible.com and audible.co.uk.  So we can breathe easy.

It was a genuine delight to go into studio each day and return to St. Crispians and its eccentric cast of Denizens and Associates. We had a huge amount of fun bringing them all to life and have already banked over 100 recurring character voices. Beth is currently at work on Volume 9, which should be published in 2026.  She remains tight-lipped about the contents but we know it will include an eccentric ‘for-1-night-only’ annual production of Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’ and we fear that Arabella may be In Peril of Marriage to a Wealthy Rake at the close of THE Season.

We record Emma Lion at the Strathmore Studios in Clerkenwell, London one of my favourite places to work.  I recorded my James Bond series there too (Genevieve performed ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’) and Stuart Wise, who edited Bond, is the editor on Emma.  I couldn’t with for a better team with whom to produce these books.

These audiobooks can be ordered through various outlets including Apple Books, Audible, Barnes & Noble and Storytel.  If you fancy some delicious escapism, check them out.
