Professional Suicide

In 2010 I was invited to join a writers’ course at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. ‘The Singing Word’ was aimed at the developing the work of librettists and encouraging them to collaborate with other opera practitioners, particularly composers on the parallel ‘Vox’ course. I was teamed with the composer Evangelia Rigaki, and our short opera, ‘Professional Suicide’ premiered at the ‘Exposure’ showcase in the Linbury Studio Theatre, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, 3rd-5th February 2011 as part of a New Writing event.

‘Professional Suicide’ was inspired by Leonvacello’s opera ‘Pagliacci’ and featured 2 ruthless theatrical agents debating whether a client comedian who has gone AWOL is of more value to them dead or alive.
